Review of Choke (2008) by Trevor L — 20 Jun 2009
From the twisted mind of Fight Club comes Choke, a movie about a young man who's gone to extraordinary (and bizarre lengths) to care for his ailing mother in an expensive nursing home. Sam Rockwell plays Victor, a sex addict who manipulates restaurant patrons toward lining his pockets.
Director/screenwriter/actor Clark Gregg does a commendable job of translating Chuck Palahniuk's novel to the screen, but it's just an average adaptation, nothing separating the novel from the film like Fight Club (the Novel) versus Fight Club (the 1999 film directed by David Fincher, starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton).
For fans of Fight Club or Palahniuk's novels, it's definitely worth a rental. Overall, it's a good movie but unfortunately it's overshadowed by both versions of Fight Club.
