Trying too hard to be a Kevin Smith film, Choke doesn't really pull off enough insight (or raunchiness). It does have enough crazy turns to keep things interesting, but just feels like a 1st draft that could have been tightened up a lot.
The constant "fade to" flashbacks say it all - they slow down the story (badly constructed story) and don't match the edgy content (and bland direction) diluting what could have been a very biting commentary/satire.
