Review of Choke (1971) by Luis S — 15 Jun 2009

Wow that was a weird movie. But so strangely intriguing. Not too much happens in it, and what does happen is kind of all over the place. There's a sex addict and there are a whole lot of sex scenes, of course; so it's a kind of weird porn that is strangely not too offensive because it has to do with psychological problems.

I guess that is a good way of throwing in lots of sex in a movie without making it explicitly gratuitous: claim that it has to do with neurosis and addiction; that maybe we all have neuroses or are addicted to something because of some bad thing that happened in our childhoods.

So, while it is not the best movie I've ever seen, and while it was pretty darn weird and kind of long, it did hold my interest that I didn't automatically turn it off.
