Review of Choke (1971) by Luke B — 20 Sep 2009
If you can, read the book first. There was much going on here in this metaphoric film but it appears it's point(s) get watered down in the film version. I love Sam Rockwell but this wasn't his best in my book, but Anjelica Huston was fun to watch here.
The story of man with sexual addictions that he is getting counseling for. His mother is in a nursing home. He gets the extra cash he needs to keep her there by feigning choking on food in restaurants.
Strange little film that could have worked better I think had it stayed more true to the book itself.
