Review of CHiPs (2017) by Edward T. C — 24 Apr 2018
Who's the insane studio executive that gave Dax Shepard 30 million to direct/star AND write this uninspired, humorless, lead balloon?! Don't they know Dax isn't a comedy writer..much less a visionary director??? Ugh, this "movie" is colossal failure, & the blame falls squarely on Dax, & his lack of writing/directing acumen.
With many funny cop comedies set in present day; Let's Be Cops, 21 & 22 Jump Street to name a few, WHY didn't he change it up & set it in the 1970's??? That's his biggest blunder.
Whether you're @ Western Costume & renting modern costumes, or 1970's wardrobe, it's all the coming in on the same truck. This COULDA been another Boogie Nights, if Dax had one shred of creative vision.
But alas, it's closer to Without a Paddle, which was even worse than this. If I was Kristen Bell, I'd be pissed. WHY didn't Dax give her a better/funnier part? He's been clinging to her like a barnacle on The Love Boat for years.
.& he's just sold her down the river. Kristen Bell is so beautiful & talented, he could have directed her to an Oscar level performance like the one Julianne Moore delivered in Boogie Nights..but, ugh, the guy is bland & talentless.
Jeez, what a waste of great IP.
