Review of Chinatown (1974) by Michael S — 04 Sep 2011
An incredible achievement in filmmaking with an excellent performance by Jack Nicholson (Best Actor of 1974? I give that to Pacino in The Godfather Part II, but this performance was still absolutely incredible), Chinatown is an example of everything going right: the screenplay, the direction, the art direction, the atmosphere, the acting.
If it weren't for Coppola's genius in the '70s (seriously, what the hell happened to him?), this would be the best film of the '70s. As it stands, I put it 3rd behind The Godfather I and II, which is a spot just about all other films would envy.
