Review of Chinatown (1974) by Sidney S — 18 Oct 2011
Incredible! Absolutely incredible. Roman Polanski's dark noir film Chinatown is truly an unforgettable cinematic masterpiece! Jack Nicholson gives the best performance of his career as private investigator J.
J. Gittes, a Golden Globe winning and Oscar Nominated performance, trying to solve the murder of a powerful man, hired by his wife. Nicholson's performance is just flat out amazing and iconic with the hat and bandaged nose, very memorable scenes, great dialogue and execution of his lines, he shows awesome intensity especially in the "I want the truth!" scene.
Faye Dunway was also great, I never knew whether to believe her or not. This is one of the true film greats, revived the film noir genre as neo-noir and set the standards for many mystery films to follow specifically 1997's awesome L.
A. Confidential.
