Review of Chinatown (1974) by Steven P — 06 Jul 2012
Roman Polanski has crafted a film that defines the neo-noir subgenre of movies every bit as fellow visionary Ridley Scott's Blade Runner. Jack Nicholson as JJ Gittes investigates a plot to control the water supply in Depression-era Los Angeles; and gets entrenched in a web of sex, murder, and corruption.
There is a slick production design that captures the period of the 1930s with great finesse and realism. Take a look, and there will be five words that can devastate a person as much as it can satisfy them: "Forget it, Jake.
It's Chinatown.".
