Review of Chinatown (1974) by Daniel D — 21 Nov 2012
As if Polanski had attempted to drown this film in complete darkness, "Chinatown" is masterful on so many levels. Serving as a wonderful detective-style mystery, Chinatown builds you up and has you completely enthralled in it's cerebral, multi-layered trance.
It does this and then smashes you straight into the ground with what I consider to me the most effective and shockingly abrupt finale in film history.
