Review of Chinatown (1974) by Jon C — 11 Mar 2013
This is utterly fantastic stuff.
One of Jack Nicholson's best on-screen peformances and Faye Dunaway does a brilliant job, too.
This is quite the mystery noir 70's thriller and the suspense is very balanced.
They keep you guessing figuring out who the culprit is with each interaction Gittes comes across.
With the addition of an environmental scam each scene gets more interesting from one to the next.
The chemistry is very awesome as well and this decade in time shows the brutality and rough edges.
Gittes mostly doesn't know what kind of game he's getting into but he's willing to get the truth one way or another.
And the twist at the end is a real jawdropper.
This is a perfect example of a perfect script, too, everything is handled with delicacy by Evans and Polanski.
It will be hard to pass this up if stumbled upon.
