Review of Chinatown (1974) by Alberto G — 26 Jun 2013
All I can say is this was the L.A. Confidential of the 70's. What a movie! Great acting (big surprise) by Jack Nicholson. An captivating whodunit with the backdrop of real time events (California Water Wars).
The movie has aged very well (even if the actors haven't). Faye Dunaway was perfectly cast as Evelyn Mulwray. You don't know if she is a femme fatale, a black widow or a victim. I knew the movie had a somber ending, but it was just perfect.
What would I change from this film? Like Gittes says "as little as possible".
