Review of Chinatown (1974) by Mario H — 01 Aug 2012
Chinatown is one of the few color film noir productions that works but that is not giving this movie justice. So many aspects of this film are done to the point of perfection that it is beyond me to list them all.
I enjoy the art direction and the level of detail done by the production team. The casting and acting is so good that you buy in right away without any hesitation. I recently read that this was Polanski's first work in Hollywood since the murder of his wife and he was determined to have a less the uplifting ending for this film.
Another one of my favorite aspects of this film is how close Robert Towne made his background story to the real history of L.A. Simply a must see movie.
