Review of China Moon (1994) by Bill S — 16 Aug 2014
Ace cinematographer John Bailey made his dramatic feature directorial debut with this film (he's previously directed a film version of a Lily Tomlin one woman show. "China Moon" is a throwback to noir films of old, with police detective Ed Harris becoming ensnared in a web of murder and lust by femme fetal Madeleine Stowe.
There's not a lot of original to the story and it's pretty slow moving, but the film's noiry style and the strong cast, which includes a young Benicio Del Toro and also Charles Dance, are enough to carry the film.
I've never been a big Madeline Stowe fan, so I wonder if I'd have liked this film better if there's been someone else in her role, like Jennifer Connolly or Diane Lane.
