Review of Chimpanzee (2012) by Joey R — 20 Apr 2012
I watched most of it on the day of release. Me and my girlfriend walked out, we simply could not stand anymore.
I suppose I went in with high expectations but... Here's my main problem.
Nature does not need to be narrated. The science behind it, the nuance that one may not have gotten, that needs to be narrated, but the beauty of nature speaks for itself. Tim Allen, you do not need to give the chimpanzees voices, their character shows on it's own...
In short, I went in, expecting a thing of beauty, displayed by our closest of cousins.
What I got was spoon fed tripe, seeped in the condescending nature of children's movies.
If you are interested only in pure visuals, this movie has more than enough to offer, I feel, as I saw my share of breathtaking scenery even in the first half, and if you have a stomach for corny, forced humor, then you may enjoy this.
As for me, I felt there was a man interrupting a beautiful film every other 5 seconds to make a wise-crack to his kid, who unfortunately could not be avoided by switching seats.
