Review of Chimpanzee (2012) by Christina S — 22 May 2013
Narrated by comedian Tim Allen , Chimpanzee tells the story about a baby chimp named Oscar who enjoys the bond with his mother. However, she and other chimps are killed off by evil chimps, led by one named Scar. He then struggles to find happiness in his forest until he comes across his leader, who takes him in as his mommy.
I have been a fan of Disneynature films, from Earth to Oceans, but Chimpanzee was just a bunch of garbage. Obviously Disney dumbed down this film so that it will be more loved for younger audiences, and you can tell when the more intense scenes come in. What the producers did was hide the cameras behind the trees so the audience, or should I say, the kids, see chimps killing each other. THIS IS DUMBED-DOWN GARBAGE THAT NOBODY IN THE ENTIRE WORLD WOULD PAY TO SEE! THIS IS WORSE THAN THE IDIOCRACY MADE IN THE HUNGER GAMES!
Another problem with this movie is Tim Allan's narration. Although I find Tim to be a funny actor, he wasn't that convincing as a narrator. All he did was make dumb, cheesy, stupid jokes and use his famous grunt. Where's James Earl Jones when you need him?
Although Chimpanzee is garbage, I was impressed with the cinematography in some scenes. For instance, a rainstorm scene appears in slow-motion seeing the wonderfulness of the beautiful earth we live in.
Despite that, I thought that Chimpanzee is a dumb, boring, stupid, and uninspiring movie that should be avoided at all costs.
