5/10 As a giant fan of the original franchise, it's hard for me to give this a positive review.

I think "Child's Play (2019)" is decent enough as a movie. A bit formulaic at times, nothing groundbreaking. The decision to change the narrative from serial killer who transfers his soul into the doll, to disgruntled employee programming a "smart device" doll is a modern twist, but not a very successful one in my opinion. Part of what made the original so good was the character of Chucky and how vengeful and desperate he was to get out of the dolls body. Here the filmmakers just ignored that and while I admire the effort to try something new and make the story relevant to today's technology, I don't think it worked for most Chucky fans.
