Review of Child's Play (2019) by Dirigiblepulp — 31 Jul 2019
More fun than you think it will be. The premise is solid - how can you tell when a self-learning AI doll has become conscious (spoiler, you don't) - and the fun is there.
There's a great early scene in which Chucky observes the kids laughing and having fun watching a horror movie and "learns" that that's what they want in their lives so he grabs a knife and threatens to kill them. Hey, he's just trying to fit in! What a sick society we have here, and hey would you look at that this is a horror movie itself and the audience is all implicated and such.
Unfortuantely, it really doesn't stick the landing. The premise is never explored meaningfully and the climax is generic and kinda boring.
