Child's Play is a film about a killer doll so it is perhaps unsurprising that it only ever really feels like a novelty. The Ventriloquist's Dummy part of Dead of Night is scarier than anything on display here.
This isn't without the odd thrill or laugh but the Child's Play franchise set the bar fairly low from the outset.
