Review of Child's Play (1988) by Luis M — 09 Sep 2017
Simple as can be, but not the technicalities that the movie carries. Although you can pretty much tell the doll is being moved with certain devices that brings it to life, it certainly helped capture the essence of the doll that the movie makers were hoping to achieve. A most definite frightening experience when it was released in theaters back in the 80's, but not so effective for today's viewers. I was too young to watch the film in theaters, but when caught on tape, it was a fear-provoking know-how I'll never forget.
What really helped the character was the incredible voiceover from Brad Dourif whom brought the killer doll to life. Although that trademark laugh that Dourif uses in the film is rather terrifying, it probably isn't as scary as Heath Ledgers daunting Joker screech in "The Dark Knight".
Nevertheless, it's no "Chucky" without the chuckle and everything that he brings with it is a perfect puzzle piece that no one can ever match.
