Review of Child's Play (1988) by Kyler D — 22 Sep 2012
Good: Cult classic, good acting, unique plot (at the time), funny moments.
Bad: Not very scary, or gory.
After constantly hearing the phrase "Hi I'm Chucky wanna play" throughout my life, I finally decided to watch the film with a friend. The plot was unique for the time. A serial killer becomes a doll with a memorable personality. But at this point the idea has been done a million times. The acting is better than expected. In particular Ed Gale works well as the character of Chucky. He makes him into a funny character. The creation of the doll while in motion is also done well enough. Sadly, I expected much more out of the film. It isn't scary, it isn't gory, and it isn't even hilarious enough to make up for these flaws. Compared to other slashers, this is not even all that violent. I found the amount of people that Chucky kills disappointing. I was moderately entertained throughout, but this is really just an average horror movie, nothing spectacular here. Still worth watching.
