Review of Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things (1972) by Ryan V — 04 Aug 2013
For an unexplained reason, a pretentious acting troupe decides to stage a resurrection ritual on a cemetery isle that's reputed to be haunted. To the surprise of everyone except the audience, this witchcraft results in a horde of undead cannibals that attack anyone they can get their fetid clutches upon.
The micro-budget of this B-Movie does allow for some passable zombie mayhem, but viewers won't get to that until the final third of the film. Until then, they're asked to endure a horrible script, hammy acting, shitty lighting, a plodding pace, and subpar production values.
Director Bob Clark would later shoot successful films like Porkys and A Christmas Story, but this obnoxious Romero clone is an unmistakable turd.
