Review of Children of the Corn (1984) by Jan B — 27 Sep 2012
Based off the short story from Stephen King, "Children Of The Corn" is horror classic from the shocking cafe opening scene till the climatic ending. Burt and Vicky, (played by Peter Horton & Linda Hamilton respectively), are on a road trip and hit an already dead kid standing in the middle of the road.
In an attempt to look for help, they stop at a gas station where the attendant tells them how to get to Hemingford, little did they know that the signs were tampered with and takes them to the "corn bred" town of Gatlin.
A town that's rid of ALL adults and taken over by murderous kids and teens, headed by their leader, Isaac (played by John Franklin) who preaches the word of "He Who Walks Behind The Rows", a demonic entity whom all the kids have been brainwashed to worship.
A series of wrong turns forces to lead Burt & Vicky into Gatlin where they are hunted by the teens headed by Malachai (played by Courtney Gains). Vicky is captured by Malachai and led to the cornfield to be offered as a sacrifice to "He Who Walks Behind The Rows".
Burt, while looking for help is stalked by Job who helps him find Vicky and explains the fate of ALL the adults of Gatlin and Isaac's rise to power. Later on, an argument ensues between Isaac and Malachai, forcing Malachai to offer Isaac as a sacrifice instead of Vicky.
Burt & Job get to the site only to find Isaac possessed by "He Who Walks Behind The Rows". Burt, with help from Job decide to destroy the demon by burning the cornfield, in the end, Burt & Vicky ended up taking custody of both Job and his "psychic" younger sister, Sarah.
Great movie, amazing cast, 5-Stars all the way!!!
