Review of Children of the Corn (1984) by Eytan D — 14 Jul 2014
"Children of the Corn" boasts a post-"Terminator" Linda Hamilton, some gory deaths, and a creepy performance from John Franklin as Isaac (you know you're about to get chills when you see this kid come onto the screen).
But the movie's best asset is a truly frightening premise. Maybe for that reason, it is memorable in pop culture. Then again, it's one of the more disappointing Stephen King adaptations. It has some cheesy acting (Courtney Gains, especially), no suspense, an unintentionally laughable ending, and a score that is at times effective but other times irritatingly generic.
The movie has had a hype to live up to since its 1984 release. Unfortunately, it only has half the reputation. Creepy? Yes. But scary? Sadly, no. However, the movie entertains enough to warrant a viewing or two.
