Review of Children of Men (2006) by Josefine L — 05 Mar 2014
This movie is a masterpiece on all proportions. Showing the messages behind and bloody sci-fi thriller, is just the tip of the iceberg of how great the movie is. Showing a a taste of what humanity will turn into once the world has gone to shit. How people will eat each other alive and how inhumane someone can be. The settings are fantastic, the world the characters live is breathtaking, and Cuarón brings this world to life in a way that makes me believe its real. The mise-en-scéne and documentary style shows the true essence of the world. Giving the audience a sense of realism and making the story believable.
Our man character Theo is a man walking about in a world torn apart and is so far gone from reality that he seems like a zombie. He's clueless to the things around him or doesn't really quite care anymore. You are introduced to the death of someone special and see why he's like this. Driven by money, he's assigned to a a case by his ex-wife. He changes overtime when he discovers something strange and a miracle about the women. This character development is shown through the fantastic acting of Clive Owen and he displays it beautifully.
The end of the movie is spectacular and concludes the movie is a fantastic way. Even when a miracle shows itself, the humans aren't willing to settle differences around a issue. Making the miracle just another sign to continue in their fight for power. Seems to be when someone is not willing to change to help the greater good. They should be eliminated and that's exactly what happens. A moving and powerful movie that for the first time might go over the heads. The second time allows the person to really pay attention. Giving a new light to the movie. I could go on and on about the greatness of the movie. Great movie and truly Cauarón's best work. 9.7/10.
