Review of Children of a Lesser God (1986) by Kyle R — 17 Feb 2008
This is not quite a romantic movie, rather I would file it under 'devotion' films ... as the characters are not petty with their love, but know the strength of connection. The physical, lyrical aspects of their relationship hold the film together.
The broad phrasing feels a little too perfect--but of course it is, it was adapted from a play, where the words needed to resound in every moment with power louder than the actors' voice. In the movie, the words become too heavy.
Luckily enough, Malee Matlin and William Hurt are there to ease you into ther romance with grace and force. Also: I have a sudden urge to learn more than just the alphabet in sign language.
