Review of Child 44 (2015) by T T — 26 Apr 2015
I think the bad reviews are being unnecessarily harsh. Like Leviathan, honest films about the Soviet winter can be a severe experience for the viewers. Thematically similar to the brilliant "Citizen-X" (1995, a docudrama featuring Stephen Rea, Donald Sutherland and Max Von Sydow), both benefit from the strengths of their cast.
If you're fascinated by the intuitive challenge of surviving the invisible, odourless, tasteless miasma of an authoritarian state, both films are worth seeing.
