Review of Child 44 (2015) by Reini U — 16 Jun 2015
The famous Chikatilo serial murder case (before filmed as "Citizen X" and "Evilenko") led to yet another british book and film, this time optioned by Ridley Scott. This time the story is not centered on the interesting story of the police and the murderer which went on over decades, but rather tries to paint Stalinist russia in the worst light.
And even if most facts are somewhat based on true events, the overall dramaturgy is cheap contra-propaganda and does not help in understanding the Chikatilo case at all. The novel was already underdeveloped and sensationalist, the film is even worse.
