Review of Chico & Rita (2010) by Daniel A — 07 Jun 2011
Great animation, great soundtrack, great script, not so great story. Chico & Rita is a hypnotic and lusty musical animation, infusing the fire of Latin America with the smooth sounds of jazz. The only problem being the story which falls too easily into that familiar tale of the trappings of fame.
With a stronger narrative, this really could have been something extra special. That aside the central romance contains real heart, winning the audience over along its touching journey. For fans of jazz, foreign animation and heartbreaking romance, this is well-worth your time.
