Review of Chicago (2002) by William C — 19 Mar 2010
Chicago is a wondefully shot and beautifully crafted piece of cinema. When the musical numbers shift from the real world and the world of the stage, thats when the expierience should and does come alive.
Richard Gere, Catherine Zeta-Jones and John C. Reilly are perfectly cast and are pitch perfect. And while the direction and writing is great for the character, Renee Zellweger's Roxie is the weak link in the movies and considering she is the main character, this is definetly a flaw.
But luckily, she is surrounded by a superb supporting cast and great direction. Richard Gere is a show-stealer playing Billy Flynn and John C. Reilly is moving and funny as Amos. Music lovers have no excuse not check this film out.
A 2002 highlight.
