Review of Chicago (2002) by Lord N — 05 May 2010
Chicago. the last of the musical film Best Picture winners. one thing I can say about it, it is visually stunning. also, I really really really REALLY like the soundtrack. I mean come on, how can you not? there is some decent acting in it too. this is John C. Reilly's best film by far. I feel that this film won both becasue if its visuals and becasue it was supposed to jump start the Musical film genre. the rocking soundtrack certainly didn't hurt things either. it was an very entertaining film. Final Verdict: mistake. this film was good. but not that good. Replacement Winner: The Pianist. that film was far and away better than this one.
TRIVIA TIME: 1. John Travolta, Kevin Spacey, John Cusack, Steve Martin and Hugh Jackman were all considered for the role of Billy Flynn.
2. The translated speech by Hunyak is: "What am I doing here? They say my famous tenant held down my husband and I chopped his head off. But it's not true. I am innocent. I don't know why Uncle Sam says I did it. I tried to explain at the police station but they didn't understand." The original, in Hungarian: "Mit keresek én itt? Azt mondják, a híres lakóm lefogta a férjem, én meg lecsaptam a fejét. De nem igaz. ...n ártatlan vagyok. Nem tudom, miért mondja Uncle Sam, hogy én tettem. Próbáltam a rendõrségen megmagyarázni, de nem értették meg.".
