Review of Chicago (1927) by David N — 29 Nov 2012
Dazzling, catchy songs with jaw-dropping choreography steal the show in this one. First-time director Bob Marshall quickly earned my respect (and that of the Oscars) with his spectacular film adaptation of this hit Broadway musical.
Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renee Zellweger, Richard Gere, John C. Reilly, and Queen Latifah all give it their all in fantastic performances, particularly Zeta-Jones, who steals the show as the desparate, greedy, and charismatic Velma Kelly.
This wonderful, darkly comic take on murder, jazz, sex, liquor, and fame ensure that this is the best adaption of any musical from stage to film to date.
