Review of Chicago (1927) by Hillary M — 03 Feb 2013
Let me first say that the number "Cell Block Tango" was pretty outstanding.
Now, perhaps it was a bad move my watching Les Miserables and Chicago the same day because I have to tell you that although I understood the "sarcasm" of the film I personally couldn't really appreciate the morally bankrupt story or enjoy it, it was actually pretty hideous to me. After seeing Hugh Jackman's Jean Valjean, how can one stomach the likes of Renee Zellweger's Roxy Hart?
In my opinion, as much as I enjoyed Catherine Zeta-Jones, Queen Latifah and Richard Gere there is no way I would ever have pegged this as worthy of Best Picture. Actually, had I given this a miss I wouldn't have missed much and my soul would be a little less hurt for it ;).
