Review of Chicago (1927) by Ada H — 20 Jan 2014
Energetic and alive, this is one of the most entertaining musicals I've seen in a while! The cast is uniformly excellent and in particular Catherine Zeta-Jones performs her ass off! The story is fairly satirical and quite brilliant at times parodying starlets in the media and how quickly fame fades.
My favourite number is "we both reached for the gun" with Zellweger becoming the dummy to Gere's ventriloquist; frickin awesome! I don't think it deserved best picture that year and you'll get by without seeing it, but if you enjoy musicals it is a razzle-dazzle good time!
