Review of Chi-Raq (2015) by Christopher C — 06 Dec 2015
I don't think the question is whether this movie is any good or entertaining (it's both) but where this fit's in Spike's 25 movie rankings (top 5-10) and what doors this opens for black cinema after years of Tyler Perry, Love and Hip Hop, Boyz N That Hood drama and comedies that had clearly replaced Spike independent, intellectual and oft-times risky productions from the late 80's/mid 90's.
Black cinema hasn't looked this good in over a decade and definitely hasn't had such a serious voice accompanied by such subtle powerful images.
