Review of Chi-Raq (2015) by Regina P — 11 Apr 2016
Spike Lee's best movie since "Inside Man". A modern satirical adaptation of "Lysistrata" with great editing, occasionally rhyming dialogue, humorous satire, and a great strong revolutionary female protagonist in Teyonah Parris's Lysistrata (she could give Katniss Everdeen a run for her money).
Unfortunately Lee's ham-fisted preachiness does show and drag down the movie at points (especially in the ending and a funeral scene where Spike Lee grinds the story to a halt to literally preach to the audience about his sociopolitical beliefs).
