Review of Cherry (2021) by Coffeeorkatea — 13 Mar 2021
Will anyone read the following review? Doubtful. But did I literally spend all last night and this morning thinking about and turning over the film I just watched? Yes. And if the hallmark of a good movie isn’t one that stays with you and hovers at the edges of your mind while you wrestle with it, then, really what is? Cherry is not an easy movie.
But it’s a movie about how the military prey on the vulnerable and then abandon them. It’s a movie about how the pharmaceutical companies and doctors drugged a generation and left them to die of drug addictions.
It’s a movie of trauma, of desperation, of hopelessness. It should NOT be an easy movie. It should be hard, it should hurt, it should make you feel horror and disgust and even loathing. It does all of that.
It stays with you long after you finish. And the Critics might hate it, but I’m not a critic. I’m an average movie watcher. And I thought this was phenomenal.
