Review of Cherry (2010) by Cine M — 22 Sep 2011
I pretty much wanted to like this movie. At times it was leaning towards 8/10, then 7/10. The ending is awful, and one critic line pushed it down to a 6/10...it fails to be either sweet or raunchy. That's a really efficient way of explaining this one.
A 17-year old virgin goes off to Ivy League College. He's a great artist but that's now why he's there. He meets a hot blonde and they begin to hang out. Then he finds out about her 14-year old daughter. As the story goes, he's torn between the two though he actually loves them both.
Parts of the movie are pretty lame: those being the American Pie bullshit sex in college stuff. How that stuff ever caught on is beyond me. The college part is shit, the sex part is shit, and the two combined is just awful and predictable and unfunny. But there is nice drama and emotion. The viewer does begin to feel for the mom and her daughter. I thought Brittany Robertson was quite convincing as a damaged teenager (and I can say she's really adorable because she's actually 21). So there is alternating good and bad, and with a little better ending, it's easily a 7/10. Toss away some of the cheap humor and it could be an 8/10.
