Review of Chernobyl Diaries (2012) by Shaun W — 17 Nov 2012
Despite the cool looking poster and the intriguing looking premise, it falls short on delivering the scares and the backstory. With the movie being shot hand-held style, I gotta admit, it really did tense me up but where the movie fails is delivering a substaintial plot that just ends up being muddled.
A group of friends decide to journey to a deserted part of Chernobyl with a tour guide only to be stranded when they come back to their vehicle to find that their wires have been stripped out of the van.
And due to it getting dark, two of them decide to goout and inspect the forrest ahead with one of them getting seriously wounded the other disappearing into the darkness. Now where the faults of this movie lie is that it is sometims too dark and the camera work was really irritating.
Its not the way that it was filmed that was more of the proble, it was the camera work combined with the absolute darkness that was annoying to watch. With the story by Oren Peli, I was not really surprised with what was written just, I just wished there could have been more to it that what was shown.
With its B-grade effects and the limited charater development, I must say I was sorely disappointed.
