Review of Chernobyl Diaries (2012) by Zane G — 27 Apr 2013
Chernobyl Diaries is just a lame excuse for a horror movie.
The film follows a group of six young vacationers looking to go on extreme tours. Ignoring warning signs, their tour guide takes them into the city of Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, but it has been deserted since the disaster more then 25 years ago. After a brief exploration of the abandoned city, however the group soon realizes they are stranded, only to discover they are not alone.
What are as a nation to see the cheapest stupidest horror movie? Well of course we all want to see scary movies. It's a natural instinct to see a horror movie. This movie on the other hand seems to be very cheap (which it is) but the movie is just so bad. The concept is just flat but most importantly this is not scary at all. This is one if those movies where it's found footage, and stuff like that just drives me insane. There are some other movies where it's found footage like CloverField (which was good) and Apollo 18 (which was terrible). The movie doesn't have any familiar faces so that's saying the movie isn't gonna be good.
Chernobyl Diaries seems to fail on everything to make a well made scary movie. Producer Oren Peli thought he could make people wait for Paranormal Activity 4 and see if people would be interested to see this when really this movie was complete scum. Bottom line your not gonna remember this movie in T-Minus 1 minute.
