Review of Chéri (2009) by David J — 21 Jul 2009
This film presents itself as it begins as sort of a fun and snarky British period piece, a sort of Wilde type story, but as soon as it has you lured into a secure feeling of watching a "fluff" piece it sweeps you away with yet another beautiful and slightly subversive score by Alexandre Desplat, good direction by Frears and a little better performance from Pfeiffer than you were expecting, indeed the film actually ends up kicking the viewer in the butt a couple of time with some really interesting moral and existential circumstances all while never straying more than an edit away from it's flippant and playful beginnings.
...not a bad little film.
