Review of Chéri (2009) by Dana A — 28 Dec 2009
This was sad. Cheri is a beautiful, lavish film that is touching, yet understated. Lea is a woman in the throes of a once-in-a-lifetime passion - but underlying all that is the sense of someone who really knows herself.
It's a virtue of maturity wholly lacking in Cheri, as a young man in no position to know his own heart, because he doesn't know himself. This is a sad, intelligent film about coming of age late in life, looking in the mirror and wondering, "What happened?".
