Review of Chennai Express (2013) by Tanvir M — 10 Dec 2013
Tries to invoke nostalgia about the 80s Tamil inspired masala films (which used to star Dharmendra and Jeetendra) but ends up being what it is- a potpourri of elements disguising its patriarchal heart- in a film the fate of a woman gets decided by the outcome of the fight between two men.
The sad fact that it was a huge hit means that there is still willing and eager audience for this type of regressive tripe. I will not even go into the blatant product placements (Shahrukh reads of the specification of a phone including its retail price) or how little sense it makes, even by Bollywood film standards.
