Review of Chef (2014) by Nick D — 06 Feb 2015
This is a joyous film, filled with food and love and music. It's true, there's not a lot at stake for the protagonist, a high-end chef who chafes at the limits of the commercial restaurant business, even after he quits in favor of the unlikely idea of outfitting a food truck and driving it across the country.
Once that conflict is resolved, relatively early in the movie, it's a kind of travelogue road movie with a cute kid, goofy antics, lovely music and a lot of celebratory feeling. It's held together by the amiable persona of Favreau's character, a kind of genius chef who's a doofus at life.
