Little films like this deserve a boost from people, like me, who enjoy them. I had high hopes for this movie when I saw that Jon Favreau directed it. In an age of Hollywood blockbusters and heavy themes it is nice to have a movie like Chef appear on the radar.

It is a little movie. At no time is anyone facing death or disease or financial ruin. It is a movie about food, family and love; a father and son's love for each other, the love of food, the love of friends and the love of the Cuban culture.

I'm writing this as a half-German/half-Dutch kid from Cleveland; I found the portion of this movie that served as a love letter to the Cuban culture to be sweet without feeling like I was being beaten over the head with it.

Among the key words Netflix uses for this move is "feel good" and I have to agee with them. I challenge you to watch this movie and not feel good at the end. ***Word of warning: If you are a fan of Cuban food this movie will leave you craving a pressed Cuban sandwich in the worst way.

My favorite Cuban sandwich place, The Floridian on Kennedy, was closed when I was finished watching this film and the wait until the next day to get one was maddening. If I had it to over again I would have ordered a Cuban or a Medianoche to eat WHILE watching this movie.

(I may rewatch it using this strategy before break is over.).
