Review of Che: Part One (2008) by Tibor B — 02 Feb 2010
Steven Soderbergh takes a very odd approach to his Che Guevara biopic, ignoring any attempt at contextualising the story or giving any real insight into the character. Like many, I was interested to learn more about Guevara as I've never fully been aware of what he did, but it speaks volumes that this film really leaves me none the wiser.
Instead it is a series of technically accomplished scenes showing the day to day hardship and tedium of guerilla rebel fighting. This grows very tiresome after a while and I quickly lost interest, despite Del Toro's convincing beard.
