Review of Che: Part One (2008) by Juha L — 04 Jun 2009
I'm going to rate this one as a whole. Because this is a one huge movie cut in half and it should be watched as a whole. And so I did. And it's great. Everything is in it's place here. The perfect director, the perfect casting and the perfect execution of everything.
Soderbergh's documentary-style approach is just what the story needs and this is as authentic as it can be. Del Toro is the only man you could ever imagine portraying the man and his performance is quite mesmerizing.
This is really well done and interesting and I think it's about time that someone made a movie about the man. And the best thing about this is the way they present and handle the character. They are not trying to make him be a larger than life, godlike, iconical hero of the story.
Far from it. He's not even always the main focus here. He's just a man who wants to make a change. And they show every side of him with Del Toro's wonderful performance. The subject is really interesting, the direction and editing are brilliant, the cinematography is amazing and the casting is just spot on.
Really nicely done and a very realistic movie about a very interesting man. Highly recommended.
