Review of Che: Part One (2008) by Nigel M — 21 Jul 2009
Very good film with uncannily accurate portrayal of Che by Del Toro even down to the level he suffered with Asthma. Always thought he was a ringer for him.
Only criticism I have is that the film didn't spend long enough detailing how he got his beliefs and why. Ok, the Motorcycle Diaries has been made before but a little longer spent on this ideological foundation might make it easier for those not familiar with the Che story to understand what drove him. He was a man who genuinely wanted an end to Latin America poverty and the imbalances that saw rich classes and military officers alike riding around in Mercedes etc whilst the local peasant populace were extremely poor.
It seemed to jump about a bit too much for me between the struggle and his later UN appearance (electric enough when he laid into the hypocritical Yanks) but it just made that a little awkward rather than impossible to follow.
