Review of Che: Part One (2008) by David H — 08 Aug 2009
This is a real disappointment. Yes, the atmosphere is authentic and Benicio del Toro is great, but the story doesn't offer any insight into Che, he remains a blank canvas. Together with Part 2 one is treated to nearly four hour of camaraderie in the forests and mountains of Cuba and Bolivia, but there is not much there besides two stories, one of success (Cuba) and one of failure (Bolivia).
It is neither helping to demystify him or to show a human side (except his asthma). It makes for a very one-dimensional movie experience.
