Review of Che: Part One (2008) by Jason R — 03 Oct 2009
Originally intended as one film Che: Part One (The Argentine) covers Che and Fidel Castro's attempts to overthrow Batista in Cuba from 1956 to near the end of the revolution. The film cuts between the guerilla warfare and Che's visit to New York in 1964 to address the United Nations.
It is a very plain film with little structure but for some reason is still very watchable. Che was allegedly just going to cover Che's actions in Bolivia but Soderbergh felt that Part 1 was needed to explain why Che was in Bolivia.
It also serves as a good balance to show how he was successful as a military leader when things in Bolivia start to go bad.
