Review of Che: Part One (2008) by Paul P — 08 Jun 2010
Superbly made, this is a film that engrosees and frustrates in equal measures.
Charting a significant period in the life of Ernesto 'Che' Guevara, the ambitions of this film are vast and this means that there are many characters and events to keep up with that becomes impossible to the uninitiated after a while. Given this is a Soderbergh film, I was expecting this but it is still a big challenge. I could also have done with understanding a little more about the man and what truly drove him.
Whilst this is the case, Del Toro is fantastic as expected. In addition to this, the film is beautiful to watch and the guerilla war scenes are superbly played out, especially the sequences towards the end..
